Add-on Service Request

Add-on Service Requests include items such as Structured Cabling, Cross Connects, Remote Hands and IDACs. ASRs are typically ordered in relation to an existing (or recently ordered) Rack service, hence they are “Add-on Services” to the rack.

AXON

NEXTDC’s AXON virtual interconnectivity platform provides advanced Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) functionality orchestrating simpler, more secure and dynamic multi-cloud, hybrid environments. AXON enables unprecedented capability to engineer safe, resilient, flexible and self-provisioned unification of data, clouds, locations, service providers and people.

AXON reduces the complexity and costs of interconnection architecture, and supports direct, point-to-point connectivity services that are dynamically adjustable by the user with no long term service contracts.

Colocation

Colocation is the process of hosting racks within a data centre like NEXTDC. Colocation covers the provisioning process from placing the order, to assigning the rack ID, completing provisioning tasks, performing QA checks and service activation.

Customer Administrators

Authorised individuals at your organisation who can manage users and access to information and activities via groups and permissions.

Cross Connect

Cross connects are a physical cable (usually fibre) running between two locations and is considered a point to point connection. They are also known as a “CC”, “interconnect” or “XC” and allow allow data transmission between two network devices. CCs may require multiple patches between the “A” and “B” end-points (e.g. in the Data Hall and in the IR room).

Data Centre Interconnect (DCI)

A service to allow customers to connect between NEXTDC sites in the same city. DCIs can be DCIe (Ethernet) or DCIf (fibre).

DocuSign

System that sends documents (including contracts) to customer to sign electronically. See What is DocuSign.

Escort

Escorts are individuals who have completed appropriate inductions and training, and are authorised to accompany and monitor contractors, vendors, and other people in a facility. Each escort can escort a maximum of 6 visitors at a time.

Facility

A NEXTDC Facility is a data centre location. Facilities are named using a prefix for the city. For example, S1 is the first data centre in Sydney, S2 is the second data in Sydney, M1 is the first data centre in Melbourne, etc.

Fulfilment

Fulfilment is a stage in the Provisioning process. Fulfilment is the physical work required to enable the service. For example, if the service is a new rack. Fulfillment activities include building the rack, installing power/cabling and allocating the rack. See also Provisioning.

Hazardous Work

All hazardous work requires a Permit to Work (PTW). The types of hazardous work are defined in What is a Permit to Work (PTW).

Letter of Authority

If the proposed Cross Connect (CC) involves data centre space not under your control you must obtain and continue to have the consent of the third party to the provision of the proposed cross connect service. Where the B-end is not a licensed telecommunications carrier, you must provide a Letter of Authority from the owner of the B-end. You can upload the LOA to ONEDC when requesting work.

Mission Critical Space (MCX)

MCX is a dedicated space to host your people and teams rather than your IT infrastructure. It is powered by the same 100% uptime infrastructure used in the data centres ensuring that mission critical teams can continue to operate at all times, irrespective of external conditions.
MCX can be highly customised to your specific requirements and is often used for security control rooms, remote resource operations, finance operation centres and other similar scenarios.

NEXTneutral

NEXTneutral is NEXTDC’s carbon offset program for customers.

Permit to Work (PTW)

Remote Hands and contractors require a PTW before starting work in any facility. The PTW is a formal written approval statement that details the planned works. Personnel cannot work without a PTW.

Provisioning

Provisioning is the work required across multiple NEXTDC functional areas to deliver a product/service.

See also Fulfilment.

Rack locking and unlocking

ONEDC users with appropriate permissions can unlock racks via an Unlock button in the ONEDC portal or via the IDAC card when in front of a rack. Rack Keys are rarely used at NEXTDC as the digital approach increases your capability and provides a comprehensive audit trail.

Structured Cabling (SC)

Structured Cabling are pre-deployed fibre FOBOTs in your rack so that when needed, cross connects can be provisioned rapidly and on-demand.
